Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a surgical specialty focusing on reconstructive surgery of the face, facial trauma surgery, the oral cavity, head and neck, mouth, and jaws, as well as facial cosmetic surgery. It is a highly specialised field of both dentistry and medicine which requires at least 4 years of post-graduate study and practical experience. This surgery field is a branch of dentistry in many countries such as New Zealand, Brazil.Turkey, USA, Canada, Australia, However, it is considered as a medical specialty in other countries such as the UK. In our country, oral and maxillofacial surgeons receive at least 4 years of advanced surgical practical and theoretical education after graduating from the faculty of dentistry.
